Catholic Strong
Campaign for the Catholic Community of South Jersey
Holy Family Parish
The Diocese of Camden has grown tremendously over the course of its 80 years in service to the people of South Jersey. As a Catholic community, we are continuing to adjust to the constant changes affecting the Church throughout the Northeastern United States. At the same time, we are working to create more dynamic parish communities.
Bishop Dennis Sullivan has actively engaged the lay faithful and clergy in promoting the wellbeing of our parishes and the diocese. By frequently visiting parishes, schools, and other institutions, he has made clear his vision of supporting his priests, increasing priestly vocations, encouraging youth and young adult formation, and providing a quality religious education, especially through our Catholic Schools.
Now, midway through the second decade of the 21st century, it is time for this generation of Catholics to make their mark on the history of the diocese. Catholic Strong, the Campaign for the Catholic Community of South Jersey, is seeking to secure a minimum of $50 million, which will primarily benefit our local parishes.
Seventy percent of the funds raised through this effort will be allocated for parish needs as determined locally and thirty percent will fund the diocese’s coordination and support of various ministries including Catholic education, social service outreach, and evangelization and faith formation efforts across South Jersey.
This effort should not be mistaken for the House of Charity, which is used to maintain the day-to-day operations of specific diocesan ministries. The mission of the Catholic Strong campaign is to provide funds to ensure that our parishes are financially stable while allowing us to address long-term and extraordinary needs so that the Church in South Jersey will have the strength and support to serve future generations of Catholics.
Some of you may have already heard about the Catholic Strong Campaign, as we have started to reach out to parishioners. A group of volunteers have formed a committee to assist with this project, and I am grateful for their leadership and dedication on behalf of our parish. If you hear from one of these volunteers, please meet with them, kindly listen to their presentation, and prayerfully consider supporting this vital undertaking, as it will be a great benefit to our Church.
The Catholic Strong Campaign will call upon all parishioners throughout our six counties to take an active and supportive role. It is my sincere hope that each of you will take part in this process by responding to this critical initiative. Your participation is vital to the future of Holy Family Parish.
I will be more than happy to meet with anyone or answer any questions you may have over the coming weeks. Thank you and God bless you, Fr. John
